The trial involving members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), including former Army Commander Lieutenant General Tlali Kamoli, charged with the murder of Maaparankoe Mahao, has been postponed until July 29 and August 2, 2024.
The High Court, which reconvened on Monday for what was expected to be a week-long session, faced delays due to difficulties in securing additional witnesses.
Prosecutors informed the court that obtaining witnesses, particularly those from the LDF, posed challenges due to protocol and logistical issues.
Additionally, the prosecution encountered obstacles in subpoenaing Former Prime Minister Dr. Pakalitha Mosisili, further complicating the proceedings.
Among the key witnesses who testified this week were Major General Matumelo Ramoqopo, who served as Director of Military Health Services at Makoanyane Military Hospital in 2015, alongside Lieutenant Kamohelo Sechele, a nurse at the same hospital, and Corporal Leballo Matsepe, a hospital driver.
The accused are accused of fatally shooting Mahao on June 25, 2015, at Ha Lekete in Mokema. In addition to murder charges, they face multiple other allegations related to the incident.
Advocates Rethabile Setlojoane and Lehlohonolo Phooko represented the prosecution, while the defence team comprised Advocates Qhalehang Letsika, Silas Ratau, Napo Mafaesa, Kabelo Letuka, and Letuka Molati.
Justice Charles Hungwe presides over the case.
