Chief of Police Advocate Borotho Matsoso has criticised Newsday for not “revealing” the hideout location of its editor Kananelo Boloetse.
This he told the journalists earlier today where police had convened the press conference meant to bring the nation upto speed with the developments around the investigations around the abduction and tortured Boloetse on Saturday night by three assailants who remain unknown.
He said the police are unable to make a breakthrough in the investigation and arrest of the abductors of Boloetse because has not come forward. Following his abduction, on Sunday he reported the incident to the police who also went to his house and conduct their investigations. Despite Newsday engaging the neighbours of Boloetse, the police said they did not find those neighbours.
On the question of whether they have identified the owner of the Toyota Starlet which allegedly made suspicious movements during the day, Advocate Matsoso said they are still investigating. He said it is only Boloetse who can shed light on what happened that Saturday night during his ordeal as there are no witnesses who have come up with the information that could lead to the arrests of his abductors and tortourers.
He explained that some aspects of his statement require clarification, which would help them deepen their investigation as what he had “provided us with is insufficient to help us get to the bottom of the matter.”
Advocate Matsoso further stated that Boloetse’s number just rings remains unanswered. The Chief of Police appealed to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to come forward. He also intimated that Newsday could be obstructing justice by not “revealing” his hideout place.
“Ask your [journalists] brother to come forward. We are prepared to protect Boloetse. MISA, you must ask Boloetse to show himself. We cannot resolve this case while he remains in hiding.”
