In a significant move to increase the number of qualified local football coaches, the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) has launched a two-week Confederation of African Football (CAF) C License coaching course at Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena.
Over 30 coaches are advancing their careers through this program, which aims to equip them with the skills needed to excel in an increasingly competitive sports environment.
The CAF C License is an internationally recognised qualification designed for coaches with at least two years of practical experience, setting them on a path to further certifications, such as the CAF B License.
This course not only enhances technical and tactical coaching skills but also provides insight into advanced coaching methodologies, game principles, and strategies. With these tools, coaches are better equipped to plan effective training sessions and create winning game plans.
At the course’s opening ceremony, LeFA Technical Director Lehlohonolo Thotanyana underscored the value of continuous learning, highlighting that the CAF C License offers coaches a valuable opportunity to gain new knowledge that will benefit both them and the sport.
“Continuous education and development are key in the ever-evolving field of coaching,” Thotanyana said, encouraging participants to maximise this learning opportunity.
The course also emphasises leadership and communication skills, essential for fostering positive, cohesive team dynamics. Through interactive sessions and practical exercises, coaches learn effective communication strategies for engaging players, staff, and other stakeholders.
FIFA Technical Expert Zunaid Mall commended the coaches for taking this important step in their coaching journey.
“The role of coaches is crucial in shaping the future of football. With dedication, guidance, and ongoing support, coaches can continue to evolve and make a lasting impact on the sport,” Mall said.
He noted that the course goes beyond technical training, emphasizing ethics, sportsmanship, and the social impact of football, shaping participants into well-rounded professionals.
Expressing his gratitude on behalf of the participants, Letsie Mojela shared that the skills and knowledge gained would be instrumental not only in their personal growth as coaches but also in the development of their teams and the broader football community in Lesotho.
“The CAF C License coaching course is a valuable investment for anyone aspiring to excel in their coaching career,” Mojela said.
“Its benefits extend beyond individual participants to the entire football community, helping to elevate the quality of the sport itself.”
Completion of the CAF C License program enables coaches to pursue further qualifications, such as the CAF B and CAF A Licenses, necessary for coaching at national and international levels. With more qualified coaches, the level of football across the continent is set to improve, bringing excitement to fans and fostering a more competitive game.
