The Lesotho fashion industry has taken a bold move with the launch of the first ever fashion calendar that appreciates top models, beauty queens and fashion influencers.

The calendar was launched on January 22, 2021 by the founder of TGee modelling agency, who is also a fashion activist Thato Fonya under the Fashion Plug Africa.

Fashion Plug Africa is the African fashion hub platform profiling the best in the industry of fashion, beauty and modelling. It is about forging relationships for Africa Investment, promotion in the fashion and modelling industry.

In an interview with Newsday Arts, Fonya said the reason behind starting the year with a fashion calendar is to help raise funds to support the fashion industry and other closely associated industries during this second wave of Covid-19.

“We are kick-starting our journey with the fashion calendar aimed at raising funds to support the fashion industry and other underprivileged industries during this second wave of Covid 19,” Fonya said.

Fonya said he had noticed the divisions among industry models, beauty queens and fashion influencers hence the need to bridge the gap through collaborations.

“In beauty there’s fashion, in modelling there’s fashion so the idea arrived came to bring together all the aspects because they are closely linked with fashion and a fashion influencer ends up working with both,” Fonya said.

The calendar’s very first cover is the modelling supreme and former Face of Lesotho Mojabeng Senekal Ndebele.

“I was looking for active people in the fashion industry, I also looked at their influential strengths, whether it is appealing to the public at large or adhere to my standards,” he said.

This is said to be a Wakanda Land Lifestyle hub aimed at keeping the masses of fashion lovers on the loop with the latest trends of works of fashion, models, beauty queens, fashion influencers and all what’s going around the globe.

“We show the beauty of Wakanda-Africa to the world by profiling celebrities, super models, top models, beauty queens, fashion influencers, high fashion end activities, film and entertainment industry at large as well as stakeholders adhering to works of Fashion, taking the advantage of the landscape, along valley river natural beauty, mountains, first class resorts and adventure places, rooted culture and the way Africans live,” he explained.

He said Wakanda Lifestyle is the essence of showing the world the natural landscape of Africa with its beauty in a fashionable manner.

The 14-page-calendar compromising of Lesotho top models, beauty queens and fashion influencers will be on sale on digital platforms as a softcopy and also a hardcopy.
