The Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) first vice president, Khiba Mohoanyane has put his name forward in the upcoming Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC) presidential elections.
The elections will take place on October 16, 2021. On Thursday, Development for Peace Education (DPE) released the list of nominations.
On the list, Mohoanyane who was nominated by LeFA, goes up against Tlali Rampooana, the longest serving LNOC vice president administration.
Rampooana was nominated by Lesotho Baseball & Softball Association (LBSA).
Mohoanyane has been in presidential role from 2016 to 2020 when he was the president of Lesotho Sports and Recreation Committee (LSRC).
He told Newsday Sport that he accepted the nomination because he believes there is a lot that needs to change.
“I am ready to take on Rampooana. I accepted the nomination and the challenge because there are a lot of things that have to change in the Olympics body,†he said.
He stated that it was of vital importance that all Lesotho athletes from different sporting codes benefit from the LNOC and get opportunities to compete in the Olympics.
“It is hard to even think of the last time a Lesotho football team was enrolled for the Olympics qualifiers,†he said.
Khiba who is the current Leribe District Football Association (DiFA) president further indicated that LNOC and LSRC have to work together for the betterment of sports in the country.
For his part, Rampooane said he is confident to clinch the position because the people who nominated him saw something and have trust in him.
“To be nominated and having accepted the nomination means I have the capabilities to do the work which the people who nominated me see in me.
“I have been in the structures for some time now so I have an idea of certain things that need to be worked on once I become president,†Rampooana said.
Meanwhile, the current LNOC president finance Letsatsi Ntsibulane has been nominated for the position of vice president administration and he is going up against advocate Bothobile Shebe of Lesotho Weight Lifting Association (LWA).
The nominees for the vice president finance are Lehlohonolo Snyman of Lesotho Boxing Association (LeBA), Moholo Lekomola and current treasurer, Lebohang Khomari.
For the deputy secretary position Shebe is unchallenged while Teboho Tikoe is also unchallenged for the treasurer position.
FLR president Fetang Selialia and Phomolo Lebotsa face off in the quest to be the public relations officer. Nominees vying for the membership posts are Mamotšabi Lekhabunyane, Mabokang Mdandalaza, Mamoipone Makoatle, Sebajoa Sebajoa, Makutloano Kheola, John Posholi, Bohang-Lintle Phasumane and Nomazondo Seleteng.
