Women murders on the rise

Limpho Lethunya, 37, appeared before the Magistrate Court on July 2,2021 on charges of murdering a 37-year-old woman ‘Mathabo Lelimo from Sea-Point. The suspect is awaiting trial in custody and will appear before court on July 15,2021.

Police reports indicate that on May 16,2021 at 10:00hours the victim’s sister went to her house to collect her so that they can go to church together then when she got there she found a six-year-old girl who told her that her mother is inside the house but is still asleep.

She entered the house and found the victim dead to which she reported to the police and the investigation report stated that the victim was murdered, to which an investigation had been launched leading to the arrest of the suspect who had fled to Free State in South Africa where he was arrested on June 22nd 2021.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man from Ha-Abia handed himself to Pitso Ground Police Station on July 5,2021 in suspicion of murdering a 35-year-old woman from Maputsoe with whom he was in a romantic relationship with. The report indicates that on the said date at around 2200hours the suspect was seen at LNDC parking a vehicle registered in RW 415 then they left and came back again to park.

The security guard heard that there was a commission in the vehicle to which he approached to find out what the matter might be, and witnessed the suspect shoot the deceased dead. Police reports state that the police found a bullet shell of a 7.65milimeter gun which was used by the suspect who is a civil servant working for the Ministry of Transport.

On the other hand, Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Mpiti Mopeli said that, in Maseru, a Mosotho man aged 38 from Borokhoaneng who lives in Qoaling was arrested by the police on July 1st 2021 in suspicion of vehicle hijacking and attempted murder. The report indicates that on June 27th 2021 at 21:00hours, a Mosotho man aged 29 years old from Khubetsoana was attacked by armed men as he entering the gate of his house, whereupon he was shot before being thrown out of the car which was then whisked away.

Furthermore, the victim was rushed to the hospital while the suspect was arrested at the filling station at Ha-Foso but unfortunately he escaped police custody and was arrested again on July 1st 2021.
