Preparations are at an advanced stage for the coronation of the 23rd Miss Lesotho.
The grand event that will pit a bevy of nine local contestants against one another for the grand crown of the Miss Lesotho 2022 Queen, will be held at the ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre on September 3, 2022.
The overall winner of the competition will get a chance to represent the country during the Miss World beauty pageant later this year.
Date and venue of the 71st edition of the Miss World pageant is yet to be revealed.
It has been two years since former model; Molulela Monyake was made the National Director by the Beauty Pageant Association of Lesotho (BPAL), and the 2022 edition will be the second with her at the helm of the country’s most prestigious pageant as director.
Speaking to this publication Monyake highlighted that preparations for the event are well advanced with excitement increasing daily.
“Every day the excitement builds up to the Miss Lesotho event and we are looking forward to it especially this being my first event with no Covid-19 limitations hence we are definitely going bigger and better,†Monyake said.
The reigning Miss Lesotho, Tiisetso Seliane who was crowned last year could not make it to the Miss World 2021 at the Jose Miguel Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico due to lack of preparedness as cited by the organisers of Miss Lesotho.
However, Monyake announced that this year’s Miss Lesotho will head to the world stage to represent Lesotho hence all the support is needed not only from the public but the business community at large.
“We have been blessed with a number of organisations’ support so far but we are still hoping for more sponsors for this event because this year our Queen will go on to represent the country at the Miss World.
“Tickets are already available for sale, where a general ticket costs M180 while a VIP ticket is M550 inclusive of pre-cocktail with meals and welcome drinks and an after party as well, so lots of exciting things can be expected,†Monyake told Newsday Arts.
Some of the country’s top acts will grace the stage to entertain the guests, including the likes of Omali Themba, Thizozo, Cleopatra, Tsa Moshoeshoe and Dj Sabby to name a few.
The journey for this year’s crowning officially began in January when registrations closed and 12 contestants were selected from hundreds of entries. However, three dropped out as the journey continued.
“After selecting our final 12 from the entries earlier this year, we unfortunately saw three contestants dropping-out of the race due to health reasons which was unfortunate, hence we are now left with only nine finalists,†Monyake said.
The outgoing Miss Lesotho, Seliane was crowned the Queen along with Poelano Mothisi as the first princess while Rapelang Ntsane became the second princess.
The Miss Lesotho pageant was inaugurated in 1978 when Libuseng Joan Khoali became the first winner.
