For the tenth consecutive year, Motul’s Bike Wash facility was an essential part of the Roof of Africa, helping competitors clear the mud and dust from their motorcycles after each challenging stage.

This year, however, Motul’s commitment to the event went beyond just assisting riders, it extended to a significant gesture of support for the Tšenola community.

In a collaboration with Industrial Supply Centre (ISC), EcoTanks, and Cashbuild Maseru, Motul’s Bike Wash partners donated two 4750L water tanks to the Tšenola community.

The donation comes after the conclusion of the ‘Mother of Hard Enduro’ race, marking a new chapter in the race’s legacy by contributing to the local community’s access to water, a precious resource in the region.

Craig Kruger, manager of Extreme Clean and the man behind the Bike Wash initiative, expressed the profound impact of the donation.

“It was deeply humbling to witness firsthand the transformative power of this donation. Access to water is a basic necessity that many of us take for granted. Through the Motul Bike Wash partnership, we are making a real difference, one tank at a time,” said Kruger.

The donation ceremony was a heartfelt occasion, where Kruger and his colleague, Brendon Venter, were honoured with traditional Basotho garments by the Tšenola community as a token of appreciation.

The ceremony underscored how vital these water tanks would be in a community where water is not always readily accessible.

Tšenola Community Deputy, Thethuoe ‘T’ Lelakane, who has been part of the Motul Bike Wash team for nine years, noted that the initiative had come full circle.

“It’s an amazing feeling to see my own community benefit from the work we’ve been doing all these years,” Lelakane remarked.

Motul’s General Manager for Southern and Eastern Africa, Mercia Jansen, emphasised the importance of local support for the success of events like the Roof of Africa.

“Without the support of local communities, events like the Roof of Africa would not be possible. We are privileged to have this opportunity to give back through initiatives that resonate with our commitment to community empowerment,” she said.

The donation of water tanks to Tšenola highlights the far-reaching impact of the Motul Bike Wash initiative, showcasing how corporate social responsibility efforts can extend beyond the race tracks to improve the livelihoods of local communities.
