The Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) has launched an e-payment solution in collaboration with Sasai Econet Financial Services (SEFS), aimed at revolutionising tax payments in Lesotho.

The partnership enables taxpayers to use their EcoCash mobile money wallets to conveniently pay taxes and customs duties through the RSL website.

Addressing journalists in Maseru at the launch of the new avenue this week, the Commissioner General of RSL, ‘Mathabo Mokoko, highlighted the collaboration’s significance in enhancing tax compliance and making payments more accessible.

She emphasized RSL’s commitment to innovation and user-friendly tax processes.

“Our collaboration with SEFS to integrate Ecocash into our e-payment system is a testament to our commitment to innovation and making tax compliance easy. This initiative is designed to simplify the tax payment process, making it more accessible and user-friendly for our Taxpayers,” Mokoko stated.

The initiative also underscores SEFS’s commitment to leveraging technology for financial inclusion and improving public service efficiency.

Also Speaking at the launch, Lehlohonolo Matee, Acting General Manager of SEFS, expressed excitement about simplifying tax obligations through this seamless integration. He emphasized SEFS’s dedication to driving financial inclusion and innovation.

Moiloa Tota, the product manager, outlined key benefits of the EcoCash-RSL integration including convenience, efficiency, security, and accessibility. Taxpayers can now make payments remotely, saving time and costs associated with physical visits. Transactions are processed in real-time, ensuring timely payments and reducing administrative burdens.

“Taxpayers can now make payments from the comfort of their homes or offices, eliminating the need to visit physical RSL offices thus save on time and transport costs. Transactions are processed in real-time, ensuring timely payments and reducing administrative burdens for both taxpayers and RSL.

“EcoCash provides a secure platform for transactions, safeguarding users’ financial information. The service is available to all EcoCash users, expanding the reach of financial services to underserved and remote areas,” Tota explained.

SEFS, a subsidiary of Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL), operates EcoCash, a mobile money transfer service facilitating bill payments and money transfers across Lesotho.
