Mzamane Football Club’s (FC) elusive search for their first win in the top flight stretched to seven games after they were defeated 4-2 by Linare FC during their Vodacom Premier League (VPL) clash in Maputsoe over the weekend.
The Mokhotlong side, which has been forced to host its home games away from the remote district due to delays in the assessment of its playing ground, has had a difficult start to life in the elite league.
Mzamane are still without a single point after losing all of their opening seven games of the 2024/25 season, following their historic promotion at the end of last season. As a result, they are firmly rooted at the bottom of the league standings with zero points and a negative 23-goal difference.
Despite their difficult start, Mzamane’s coach, Liteboho Ramantsoe, remains optimistic, insisting that they have what it takes to fight their way out of the current situation.
As newcomers in the league, the team is hoping to use their experiences from the opening games to develop a strategy for turning their season around in the later stages, in order to avoid relegation.
In a post-match interview after their victory over Mzamane, Linare’s coach, Bob Mafoso, expressed satisfaction with how his players performed, despite a few concerns.
“I am not entirely satisfied with our second-half performance. The fact that we scored early shows that we were not fully focused on the game,” Mafoso said.
He continued by praising Linare’s player, Norman Kumatse, for his standout performance in the match.
“We are very grateful for this victory. It is important for us to collect points in the league, but we also need to go back, review our performance, and identify where we can improve,” Mafoso added.
