In a move aimed at enhancing water safety during swimming events, the Lesotho Swimmers Association (LeSA) has received motor boats from the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC).
LeSA’s acquisition of the motor boats marks a significant milestone in Lesotho’s efforts to develop its swimming infrastructure and support the growth of aquatic sports across the nation.
With these new resources in place, athletes and organizers can look forward to safer and more successful open-water swimming events in the future.
During a recent handover ceremony of the two powered boats, the chief executive officer (CEO) of LNOC, Morake Raleaka, said his organisation was committed to working with sports associations to make a difference in Lesotho.
Raleaka highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for young athletes to develop their skills noting “there is still much to be done in the coming years to continue growing the sports sector by LNOC.”
Tšepiso Baholo, president of LeSA, expressed her gratitude for the donation of the new boats, stating that they would help to increase the number of swimmers and improve the quality of the sport in Lesotho.
Baholo further noted that the LNOC has played a vital role in supporting the development of swimming in the country.
The owner of the Durham Link, Joseph Morena ‘Mele, echoed similar sentiments and added that the boats would serve not only sporting purposes but also provide livelihood opportunities for the local community.
He also acknowledged the role of the LNOC and other organisations in making sports accessible and beneficial to the people of the country. Durham Link is a hub of different water sporting activities.
