The talented team behind the Eswatini film Baka Ngwane, set to be screened later today at Alliance Française de Maseru, arrived in the country yesterday and is scheduled to depart tomorrow, Saturday.
Baka Ngwane is a gripping historical drama that delves into the origins of the Kingdom of Eswatini. It chronicles the journey of the Nguni people as they migrated to the region and established a powerful kingdom under the leadership of King Matalatala I.
The film explores universal themes such as love, loss, power, and the formidable challenges faced by the kingdom’s early rulers, offering viewers an enriching glimpse into Eswatini’s heritage.
The creative team includes: Sibusiso Dlamini, producer, Shaft Moropane, director, Mandisa Mamba, actress (portraying Queen Qoshile), and Samkelo Dlamini, actor (portraying King Matalatala).
Their presence at the festival exemplifies the European Film Festival’s commitment to fostering dialogue between international and local filmmakers.
This annual festival, funded by the European Union with additional contributions from EU member states, features a diverse array of European and regional films.
The 2024 edition explores powerful themes like social justice, identity, and human resilience, providing fresh perspectives through storytelling.
Thanks to support from Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, Poland, and Spain, this year’s festival has expanded its scope and reach.
Screenings now span four venues: Alliance Française de Maseru, the National University of Lesotho (NUL), Café What?, and The Hub in Morija.
The festival also includes filmmaker seminars, audience discussions, and opportunities for local creatives to engage with international industry professionals.
