Roboama Koloti sole first time goal was enough for Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) to seal a victory over Bantu in the Vodacom Premier League (VPL) catch-up match that took place at LCS Ground.

LMPS thumped the defending league champions in a tie that saw the Police side dent the hopes of a second place finish to the league for Bantu.

The two sides were cautious of opening up by taking the game to each other in the opening 10 minutes with fewer chances created.

However, the game started opening up with end-to-end action that led to the game’s only goal in the 16th minute by Koloti. Following the goal, Bantu seemed to be looking for an equalizer with striker Lazola Tjokotjokoane missing a few clear-cut chances including a one-on-one with LMPS goalkeeper Sekoane Moerane.

Bantu had to bring in an early substitution of Lehlohonolo Fothoane following an injury on midfielder Jane TÅ¡otleho in the 32nd minute.

The match went into the break with LMPS in the lead and looking comfortable with the visitors not threatening much.

Soon after the break, the Mafeteng based outfit made their intentions clear of wanting to fight back when they made a double substitution in the 56th minute.  Tjokotjokoane made way for Mokone Marabe while Neo Mokahchane came in for Moshoeshoe.

The striker told media after the game that he was glad he could help LMPS to secure victory over Bantu looking at their position in the log.

“Considering where we are in the log, we had to win today’s game by any means possible hence we put in all the hard work.

“We have a few games left and our plan is to continue working hard because our target now is the top 8 and possibly top 4 as we still stand a chance,” said Koloti.

The police side is currently on 40 points after 25 games with 12 wins, nine loses and four draws while Bantu have remained in second position on the log with 49 points having played 25 games with 14 wins six loses and six draws.

Bantu were able to stay on second position despite the loss due to LCS loss to LDF by a goal to zero on the same day at Ratjomose Ground.
