Rapper Thaabe “Ntate Stunna” Letsie is setting his sights on new heights with his upcoming Sesotho Fashioneng event, scheduled to take place at Vodacom Park on December 28.

The event, with the slogan #HaReEengMaseru (Let’s Go to Maseru) promises to be a one-of-a-kind cultural experience.

“It’s been a decade since I released Mookho, the song that catapulted me into the spotlight. I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again—this event will be the best performance I’ve ever delivered,” said Ntate Stunna during a media briefing this week.

The event aims to showcase the diverse cultural heritage of Lesotho.

“For too long, local events have been headlined by international artists, while local talent often takes a back seat. The truth is, we as Basotho artists are the real crowd pullers. The marketing for local talent has never been given the same effort, but now it’s our time to shine,” he added.

The Sesotho Fashioneng event is named after Ntate Stunna’s 2020 album, which sparked a movement among his fans, his Penya Play team, and the broader creative community.

“It’s crucial to show our pride in Lesotho and the Sesotho language. While we may not always realize it at home, whenever we travel abroad, we’re constantly complimented on how beautiful our language sounds. This event will prove that, like other thriving cultures, Basotho are making their mark on the world,” he said.

He emphasised that the event would showcase a modern approach to traditional Basotho attire.

“We don’t have to wear heavy Basotho blankets in hot weather to show our pride. We can preserve the essence of the blanket by incorporating its designs into lighter, more practical clothing.”

Unlike any other event he has performed at, Ntate Stunna says fans will get a glimpse of his artistic vision and involvement in all aspects of the event, from stage design to choreography. He has partnered with dancer Mavele Infinity to fine-tune the performance in the lead-up to the event.

Sesotho Fashioneng will also provide a platform for artists of all kinds to display their work. The official press announcement was held at Avani Lesotho Hotels and Casino on Thursday, attended by local celebrities and corporate representatives.

Speaking at the event, comedian Bofihla “Lilaphalapha” Neko praised Ntate Stunna’s work ethic and the strong brand he has built.

The event will feature a comprehensive look at Ntate Stunna’s musical catalogue, including collaborations with artists who have contributed to his success over the years. He also expressed gratitude to sponsors like Kentucky Fried Chicken and called on other private businesses and the government to help make the event a success. However, he reassured everyone that, with or without additional support, the event will go ahead “aggressively” and succeed.

The Sesotho Fashioneng event is expected to become an annual celebration of Basotho culture, a place where national pride takes center stage.
