Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) recently built a fully-furnished two-roomed house for the Moorosi family in Qacha’s Nek.

The two-roomed house is fully fitted with furniture and is connected to electricity.

ETL carried out the initiative through its social impact partner, Higherlife Foundation.

The corporate social investment (CSI) initiative comes after ETL learned of the family’s misfortune of experiencing a break-in, where one of the family’s female members was sexually attacked in the process.

The sexual attack victim in question is also a Higherlife Foundation beneficiary for her high school education.

She is currently waiting to begin tertiary education.

Speaking during the recent handing over of the home to the Moorosi family, ETL’s Marketing and Customer Experience General Manager, ‘Mapusetso Ntšekhe said the house is meant to enhance the family’s safety and sense of security.

“This handover represents a significant milestone in our journey towards creating a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and families within our community,” she said.

“By providing a safe and stable home, we aim to contribute to their overall well-being and foster a sense of security and hope for a brighter future.”

Ntšekhe said they followed a meticulous process in identifying the recipient, with the assistance of their dedicated CSI team, local community leaders and relevant stakeholders.

“We have carefully considered various criteria such as financial circumstances, personal circumstances, and long-term sustainability to ensure that this gesture has a meaningful and lasting impact on the recipient’s life.”

‘Mamookho Moorosi who spoke on behalf of the Moorosi family, said prior to receiving the new house, they lived in a desolate house which, danger to its inhabitants.

“I had to take my daughter out of school so she can live with me at my work place in South Africa, but ETL called me to come back so that they can assist us with our situation.

“They said they would build us a new home so that my daughter can go back to school without any challenges and they delivered on their promise. We are very grateful to Higherlife Foundation as it has been with us for a long time in this journey.”

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports, Arts, Culture and Social Development, Pitso Lesaoana, said ETL’s noble gesture symbolises its affection for Basotho.

“The government can succeed if entrepreneurs or the business community can give back to the community.

“We have to collaborate and team up with other corporates for a better life for our people. It is every company’s responsibility to engage in corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts,” he said.
