Foodies and those with a sweet tooth, rejoice! The annual Mathe Maloli Food Festival is back and will take place on September 1st at The Caff, formerly known as Setsoalle Park.
The event, described by organiser Motebang Senaoana as “a family-friendly, food-centered celebration of the best music and cuisine from Lesotho,” offers a vibrant space where local cooks and chefs can showcase their talents, sell their creations, and collaborate, all while fostering a culture of culinary appreciation.
“If not for the setbacks caused by COVID-19, this would have been the festival’s seventh edition since its inception in 2018 by Osmium Lesotho,” Senaoana said.
“Instead, we are thrilled to be hosting our fourth festival, following our return in 2022.”
Senaoana emphasised that this event is a must-attend for Basotho and culinary arts enthusiasts alike. Attendees can expect “loads of fun and entertainment, delicious food from various vendors, and a thrilling kota eating competition,” he added.
Sponsored by Jay’s Restaurant, Coca-Cola, and featuring a Braai and Burger Cook-Off, the Mathe Maloli Food Festival promises more than just delectable food and music. The event will also offer family-friendly fun, including board games with prizes.
For music lovers, a line-up of DJs, including Camping and Sonics, Msl Relo, Oa Nkopane, Tommy D, and Kheleke, will keep the beats thumping throughout the day.
Beneficiaries of the festival include vendors such as Lecholi, Gin N Trout, Lotus Grills, and Let’s Party. This year, however, the event aims to be even more inclusive.
“We are paying special attention to MSME chefs this year, balancing the needs of our customers while ensuring everyone has tons of fun,” Senaoana noted.
The choice of venue was carefully considered for its attributes.
“When selecting a location, we consider factors such as accessibility, space for fun activities, great food, seating areas, and excellent views,” Senaoana explained, adding that The Caff meets all these criteria and more.
“Our event is centered on food as the main attraction. We are placing MSME cooks at the heart of our event, celebrating and appreciating their contributions.”
