Farewell for ‘Malane

The Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services, and the Ministry of Sports, bid farewell to Thabang ‘Malane, an Lesotho Correctional Services (LCS) Football Club (FC) product who is bound for Namibia to join African Stars FC.

Speaking at the farewell event this week, LCS FC President, Commissioner Mating Nkakala expressed pride in the club’s achievement, noting that ‘Malane is the third player from LCS FC to move abroad.

“‘Malane is a brilliant player with exceptional discipline and great football skills. These players sent abroad showcase their talent and pave the way for others. We have previously sent players to Germany and Tunisia, and now to Namibia.”

On his part, LCS’s coach, Thabile Secker praised ‘Malane’s dedication and skills, stating that he deserves all the success coming his way.

“Work hard, save money, and come back stronger for your nation,” Secker advised ‘Malane.

Mikia Kalati, the Communications and Marketing Manager for the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA), highlighted ‘Malane’s impressive performances since earning his first national team cap in 2020 against Benin.

“Although the team didn’t perform well in that match, ‘Malane demonstrated his value to the national squad. He was also part of the 2023 Council of Southern African Football Association (COSAFA) team of the tournament.”

‘Mabonolo Senekane, the General Manager of the Premier League Management Committee (PLMC), emphasized the positive impact of sending players abroad, describing it as a sign of significant development. She commended ‘Malane’s consistent performance, discipline, and commitment throughout his premier league career.

In his farewell speech, ‘Malane pledged to work hard and serve as an inspiration for other players aspiring to play internationally.

“To my fellow teammates, always maintain discipline and respect, as these qualities will benefit you in the future,” he advised.

The Minister of Sports, Motlatsi Maqelepo, praised the Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services for allowing ‘Malane to pursue his career abroad, underscoring the importance of showcasing Lesotho’s talent on the international stage.

“Through sports, we can embrace our national identity and expect our athletes, like ‘Malane, to excel and bring remittance into the country,” Maqelepo stated.

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Richard Ramoeletsi, affirmed the government’s support for ‘Malane, explaining that his transfer aligns with efforts to modernize civil governance.

“We want him to exceed expectations and showcase the talent from our country beyond the southern region. We will support him throughout his journey.” Ramoeletsi said.
