In honour of Women’s Month, the City Eagles Netball Club is set to host the inaugural Women’s Month Commemoration Netball Tournament at the Lehakoe Recreational Center in Maseru from August 25 to 26.

This two-day event will bring together netball clubs from Lesotho and South Africa, fostering a spirit of empowerment, sportsmanship, and community.

The tournament aims to celebrate the achievements of women and inspire continued excellence across various fields. It will highlight not only athletic talent but also leadership, teamwork, and the importance of mutual support. This event is a tribute to the strength, resilience, and potential of women everywhere.

City Eagles Netball Club, a Maseru-based, registered member of the Lesotho Netball Association (LNA), is dedicated to advancing the sport of netball in Lesotho. The club, which consists of women and girls from the Maseru district, competes in the LNA Elite League.

The tournament is expected to feature over 20 clubs, including high school teams, with more than 10 teams already confirming their participation.

In an exclusive interview with Newsday Sports, City Eagles Netball Club’s Team Manager, ‘Matsepo Mohau, discussed the club’s commitment to enhancing the standards of netball in Lesotho.

“This tournament is an opportunity to showcase high-level event organization and set a new standard for future events. We aim to motivate young girls by demonstrating that greatness can be achieved through sports,” Mohau said.

Mohau also emphasized the club’s goal of building lasting partnerships with the corporate sector. “We hope to engage businesses and gain their support for netball, creating a sustainable future for the sport. Corporate involvement is crucial for netball’s growth, and we hope this tournament will be the start of many fruitful collaborations.”

The tournament is open to netball enthusiasts, the corporate sector, media, and the public.

“We urge everyone to join us for a weekend of exciting netball action, empowerment, and community building. Let’s come together to celebrate Women’s Month and support the growth of netball in Lesotho,” Mohau added.
