The Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) officially handed over a newly constructed sports ablution facility to the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) Airwing Base, in a move that underscores the importance of collaboration between government institutions.

The event, held at the base, was attended by senior officials from both organisations, marking a significant step in efforts to improve the well-being of personnel.

The state-of-the-art facility includes two fully equipped dressing rooms, complete with lockers and benches, ensuring that users have a comfortable space to prepare for and recover from physical activities.

The facility also features 12 shower rooms and eight toilet rooms, addressing a crucial need for sanitation and hygiene at the base’s sports grounds.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, RSL’s Commissioner General, ‘Mathabo Mokoko expressed her delight at seeing the project come to fruition.

She emphasised that the facility symbolises more than just a physical structure; it represents the strong relationship between RSL and LDF and their shared vision of enhancing the working and sporting environment for their employees.

“This occasion marks a significant milestone in the partnership between RSL and LDF,” Mokoko stated.

“We recognise the importance of promoting the well-being of our employees, and through this facility, we hope to contribute to an improved and more dignified sporting environment. Our collaboration not only strengthens institutional ties but also reinforces our collective commitment to ensuring better facilities for all stakeholders who use the LDF grounds.”

The construction of the facility is part of a broader initiative to improve sports and recreational infrastructure in Lesotho, particularly in areas where security forces and other government personnel engage in physical training.

With increasing recognition of the role that sports play in physical and mental well-being, the new ablution block is expected to significantly enhance the user experience at the LDF Airwing Base.

LDF’s Commander, Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela, expressed deep appreciation for RSL’s generosity and commitment to improving conditions at the base.

He acknowledged the challenges that existed before the facility’s construction, noting that personnel often struggled with inadequate sanitary amenities after training sessions and sporting events.

“On behalf of the Lesotho Defence Force, I extend my sincere gratitude to RSL for making this facility a reality. The provision of modern and hygienic amenities will not only benefit our personnel but also others who use these grounds. As army leadership, we assure you that we are committed to maintaining and properly managing this facility to ensure its sustainability for years to come.”

The handover ceremony concluded with a tour of the facility, allowing guests to appreciate its modern design and functionality. Officers and sports enthusiasts alike expressed excitement about the new infrastructure, with many stating that it would encourage greater participation in sports and fitness activities at the base.

Beyond improving hygiene and convenience, the facility is expected to strengthen camaraderie among personnel from both institutions.
