Two athletes from Thaba-Tseka have received a major boost ahead of their participation in the Prince Mangosuthu Ultra Marathon, set to take place in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa this coming Sunday.

Tefo Malataliana and Seeiso Potsane, both 26 years old, approached the Thaba-Tseka branch of Sentebale Gap Funeral Services for support in preparing for the international race, and in response, the company provided them with essential running gear, nutritional supplements, logistical support, and accommodation.

Malataliana is set to compete in the 21.1km half-marathon, while Potsane will run the 10km race.

The sponsorship forms part of Sentebale Gap Funeral Services’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, through which the company supports local talent and community development. The gesture ensures the athletes can focus on performance without financial burdens.

The Prince Mangosuthu Ultra Marathon celebrates endurance, resilience, and South Africa’s rich heritage. It draws elite runners, dedicated athletes, and fitness enthusiasts from across the region. The race will begin at 05:30 at Nquthu Stadium and features four categories: 52km, 21.1km, 10km, and 5km.

Speaking at the handover event, Sentebale Gap’s Head of Sales and Marketing, Tefo Leboto, revealed that the request for support came through the Thaba-Tseka District Administrator.

“We received a list full of their requirements, and selectively we managed to assist them with most of their essential needs, hence we are handing them over to them so they can participate in the race with all the ease,” Leboto explained.

In response, Malataliana expressed heartfelt gratitude for the sponsorship:

“We have been running since we were in primary until high school, where we decided to practice together. We also participated in multiple local marathons, including the Bocheletsane Marathon and the Mokhotlong High Altitude Marathon, so we are confident we will do well in the race.”

“We have not participated in any international races due to financial and sponsorship constraints, but we are grateful for this opportunity from Sentebale and our District Administrator.”

Maseru District Administrator Tśepo Lethobane praised the runners for their unity and dedication, noting that such partnerships have the potential to inspire youth and deter negative behaviour.

“This is not just participating in sports but also curbing other illegal activities that do not yield anything productive. With this gift from Sentebale Gap Funeral Services, go and run so you make yourself proud as well as the whole nation, show them that unity can yield good results,” he said.

“We appreciate the support from Sentebale Gap Funeral Services with their support for sports in our country,” Lethobane added.
