In a groundbreaking move, Standard Lesotho Bank (SLB) has partnered with the Examinations Council of Lesotho (ECOL) on a M300 000 deal to provide robust support for Grade 11 examinations to facilitate academic success and smooth transition to tertiary education of the learners.
The initiative, which will run for two years, is designed to empower Lesotho’s youth by ensuring that their final year assessment process runs smoothly in order to pave the way for their post-secondary education transition.
At the signing ceremony, ECOL Chief Executive Officer, Dr Mokhitli Khoabane, expressed gratitude for the partnership, emphasising its potential to strengthen educational initiatives in Lesotho.
He stated that the funds would be used to purchase essential resources, such as stationery, to ensure a seamless examination process.
“Education equips individuals for growth. We are grateful for the M300 000 given to us, and we promise to use these resources wisely. This partnership will also allow us to create platforms for constant communication with candidates, enabling them to access vital information,” said Khoabane.
Dr Khoabane also revealed plans to use part of the funds to recognise top-performing students through awards, aiming to inspire future Grade 11 learners to strive for excellence.
Speaking on behalf of SLB, Head of Personal Banking, Rethabile Motsoahae, described the partnership as a milestone for education in Lesotho.
“This collaboration represents an investment in the country’s education system. Since 2022, we have been offering scholarships to students who achieve excellent results, enabling them to study wherever they choose,” he said.
Motsoahae highlighted SLB’s continued focus on youth empowerment, referencing previous initiatives like the Future Flex Project and the National Career Expo, which have exposed students to diverse career opportunities.
“Our main focus is on Grade 11 students because success is reflected in results, and good results create a better future. This partnership is another step toward ensuring that the next generation receives quality education and lives a better life,” he added.
Makhube Lenkoane, CEO of Curriculum and Assessment at the Ministry of Education, also praised the collaboration, emphasising the critical role of education in shaping the country’s future.
“ECOL must use these funds wisely to enhance academic excellence and improve outcomes for all Grade 11 learners,” he urged.
