News about the Multi-award winning Lesotho international and Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) star forward Katleho Makateng being in the radar of topflight South African premier league giant teams including Kaizer Chiefs has been confirmed this week.

LDF Communications and Marketing Manager, Dolly Ntakha confirmed to this publication that the team has indeed received communication from two clubs in the South African top flight, Dstv Premiership.

He said the two have shown serious interest in the services of the young player, adding that it was especially Richards Bay FC who have actually put an offer on the table for the marksman’s services.

“We received communication from two clubs that showed interest in signing the player, the two are Kaizer Chiefs and Richards Bay.

“I can talk mainly about Richards Bay because they have already put forward documents showing intention to sign the player and all that is left is for the team’s management to discuss the offer with the player,” Ntakha said.

Ntakha indicated that Kaizer Chiefs on the other hand, although also showing interest in boosting its strike force with Makateng, has not made any formal offer but merely sent through communication enquiring about the player. He added that if the player is interested, the club will let him go.

“So far Kaizer Chiefs has not made an offer but have enquired about Makateng so we had been waiting for a formal offer. We will sit down with the player to discuss the offers and see what he desires and the club will definitely let him explore,” Ntakha said.

Makateng who recently won the Golden Boot award for the 2020/21 Vodacom Premier League (VPL) season when he finished the season as the top goal-scorer with 20 goals in one season is said to have attracted interest from a number of clubs beyond Lesotho borders with his performance at the recent Confederations of Southern African Football Association (COSAFA) Cup which took place in South Africa earlier this month.

Despite Likuena crashing out of the group stages in the tournament that was held in Durban, the 23-year-old forward became a household name in the group stages taking home two Man-of-the-match accolades and scoring twice in the three games Likuena played.

The Pitseng-born striker also broke records at the VPL awards ceremony last month bagging all the awards he was nominated in, viz: Young Player of the year, Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year.

Makateng joined premier league side LDF from Pitseng side, Litsilo which plays in the A-Division but hit the ground running in his first season in the premier league to stamp his authority amongst the fellow strikers.

Meanwhile, contacted for a comment on the matter, Makateng said he was not aware of such news as he has not received any communication regarding the news although he indicated that his major interest was playing the beautiful game the best way he knows no matter where.
