Telecommunications giant, Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL), launched the second annual Econet Digital Expo 2024 this week at Maseru Mall, showcasing the company’s latest innovations in digital technology and AI-powered solutions.
The Expo, which ran from Monday and ending today, provided a platform for demonstrating Econet’s transformation from a telecommunications operator to a fully integrated digital services provider, reaffirming its commitment to driving digital transformation in Lesotho.
In addition to product demonstrations, the Econet Digital Expo features live panel discussions focusing on the power of AI, financial technology solutions, and cybersecurity, while also showcasing the latest in ETL’s digital offerings.
The event has been designed to attract a wide audience, from technology enthusiasts and business leaders to entrepreneurs and the general public, offering a unique opportunity to explore how digital technologies can enhance every aspect of life.
The event came at an exciting time for Econet, following the successful rollout of its 5G network coverage across all 10 districts of Lesotho.
ETL has also expanded services such as eSIM and HD Voice (VoLTE), allowing customers with compatible devices to enjoy seamless connectivity and high-definition voice calls over a 4G network.
Speaking at the expo, Lebohang Ramaisa, ETL’s General Manager for Sales and Services, highlighted the significance of the Econet Digital Expo as a platform for engaging with customers and stakeholders.
“This year’s Expo demonstrates that Econet is more than a telecom provider—we are a partner in Lesotho’s digital future,” Ramaisa said.
“With Lesotho’s growing need for digital infrastructure, the Expo also aims to inspire businesses, entrepreneurs, and young innovators to embrace the potential of advanced technologies. ETL’s 5G network and AI solutions offer opportunities for businesses to streamline operations, improve customer service, and unlock new markets,” he added.
Ramaisa also emphasised that their recent milestones, particularly in 5G network expansionand eSIM technology, were just the beginning.
“Through this Expo, we aim to inspire a culture of innovation in Lesotho, empowering businesses and communities to thrive in the digital economy. This is about building a connected future where technology creates opportunities for all.”
Among the highlights of the Expo is a new interactive product called Mpoi, which has been equipped with AI capabilities.
“Mpoi now features interactive AI, allowing users to ask anything related to ETL services, and it will direct them to the appropriate menu,” explained Ramaisa.
