5 Hub Schools, a creative thinking initiative under rise International, recently hosted a vibrant CreoLab Innovation Day Exhibition at Seboka Primary School, celebrating youth-led innovation, entrepreneurship, and social enterprise.
Funded by Action Ireland Trust, which has collaborated with rise International for the past five years, the event brought together young innovators, educators, entrepreneurs, and members of the public to showcase the creative projects of learners from four participating primary schools: Leqele, Lithabaneng, Seboka, and Makoanyane.
The CreoLab programme is a hands-on educational initiative designed to equip learners with practical skills in design thinking, fabrication, and entrepreneurship. Over recent months, students have worked on innovative solutions to real-world challenges, projects that were proudly exhibited during the event.
“Through such initiatives like Innovation Day, we’ve come to realise as educators, especially at primary level, that learning doesn’t only happen in the classroom,” said Matsotetsi Kometsi, CreoLab Project Coordinator.
“Some learners may struggle in traditional settings, but when introduced to practical, vocational education, they thrive. Creolab is a powerful tool for unlocking the potential of learners who are often overlooked.”
Echoing this sentiment, Mookho Bolai, a student from Leqele Primary School, shared how the programme has reshaped their understanding of education and opportunity.
“Creolab has opened our eyes. We’ve discovered talents we never knew we had. If someone is an artist, they can sell their work and make a living. It’s about turning creativity into opportunity.”
Exhibition Highlights Included live demonstrations of product prototypes and digital solutions and panel discussions on innovation, youth empowerment, and sustainability.
Among the projects showcased were handcrafted woolen items like scarves and hats, remote-controlled helicopters built from mash wire and batteries, radio speaker created using a recycled box, cutlery holders made from upcycled plastic bottles, and mini fresh produce market, where learners displayed home-grown carrots, spinach, green peppers, and tomatoes.
The event was not only a celebration of creativity but also a powerful statement on the role of youth in driving sustainable development through innovation.
rise International extended heartfelt appreciation to all partners, schools, students, and guests who contributed to the success of the day. The organisation reaffirmed its mission to support youth-led innovation, promote alternative learning pathways, and foster inclusive, sustainable development across Lesotho.
