Local music producers, Benito M and Dj Masilo have collaborated the creation of a song tilted Khosi RaBasotho in celebration of the King’s birthday.

The song which was released on the King’s birthday on Sunday July 17, 2022, basically talks about His Majesty King Letsie III who was born on that day back in 1963, ehce the song was geared towards festivities for the King’s 59th birthday.

Born Mohato Bereng Seeiso, King Letsie III is the eldest son of their Majesties the late King Moshoeshoe II who died in 1996 and the late Queen ‘Mamohato Bereng Seeiso who died in 2003.

Succeeding his late father, King Letsie III has been the statesman since 1996, after his father’s death but his official coronation took place on October 31, 1997.

In honour of his birthday, the two house music producers came together to produce a classic hit that talks about the King and his birth and upbringing.

In a recent interview, Benito M told Newsday Arts that the concept of the song was his and that he composed the beat and later thought of collaborating with Dj Masilo.

“Dj Masilo wrote the lyrics to the song in a form of a poem as dedication to our King so I composed the beat and we came together to collaborate on it and planned to release it right on the King’s birthday,” Benito M said.

The song was initially set to be part of the house Music Compilation called Maluti Homebrewed Essentials 2021 but it never made it. However, because of the message and quality in it, Dj Masilo shared that it is only fair to release it as single.

The poem is partially taken from the book called Lesotho in The World Today.

“I used a book that has Lesotho History from the beginning to write that poem and recorded the vocals while Benito did the production of the beat.

“But all this happened in 2021 because the song was meant to be part of the Maluti Home Brewed Essentials of last year but it did not make it. So this year we decided to rework it and release it at this time which is highly relevant,” he said.
