In a significant stride towards enhancing healthcare services and empowering local communities, World Vision International Lesotho (WVIL) has made a generous donation of medical supplies to the Ministry of Health.
The donation comprises essential medical equipment aimed at bolstering healthcare provision across the nation.
The donated medical supplies, which include 900 boxes of medical gowns, seven foldable examination beds, and seven gazebos, are intended to benefit the Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital (QMMH) and health facilities supported by World Vision in the Matelile and Rothe Area Programs.
James Nkemba Chifwelu, the National Director of WVIL, emphasised the positive impact these contributions would have on various healthcare services, particularly in the domains of Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH), Nutrition, and the Prevention of Infections and Diseases.
During the handover ceremony, Chifwelu stated: “The foldable examination beds and gazebos will enhance comprehensive MNCH and nutrition services provided at seven health facilities in Matelile and Rothe Area Programs.
“These services cater to hard-to-reach communities, the most vulnerable children, and rural populations who rely on outreaches for essential health services. By ensuring their accessibility, we can positively impact maternal and child health and nutrition status.â€
He further highlighted World Vision’s overarching objective to improve the health and nutrition status of communities while addressing the challenges posed by HIV and AIDS among children, families, and societies at large.
He emphasised the organisation’s commitment to enhancing access to quality maternal, neonatal, and child health and nutrition services, along with preventing infections and diseases among children and vulnerable populations.
‘Maneo Ntene, the Principal Secretary (PS) for the Ministry of Health, expressed gratitude for the timely donation. Ntene acknowledged the financial constraints faced by the ministry and praised World Vision for stepping in to bridge the gap.
“The Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will make a huge impact, as well as the equipment donated to address the issues of primary health care,†she stated, highlighting the critical role of the donated supplies in the broader context of healthcare provision.
The donation from World Vision International Lesotho is poised to contribute significantly to strengthening Lesotho’s healthcare landscape, fostering improved health outcomes, and fortifying the healthcare services extended to communities, particularly those in remote and vulnerable areas.
