‘Mamoleboheng Mokhethi, a Mosotho woman aged 42 is in hot water for faking her marriage in order to inherit the estate of her late “husband.”
Mokhethi, who lives in Lepereng in Maseru district recently appeared before the Maseru Magistrate court accused of forging her marriage certificate through the help of a church priest.
Court documents indicate that the accused is charged with contravening the provision of section 70 (3) read with 109 of the panel code act no.6 of 2010 (forgery).
“… In that upon and about the time and dates not known to the prosecutor and at or near Lepereng, Maseru, the accused did unlawfully and intentionally make a Lesotho government document marriage certificate in contravention of the said act,” the charge sheet read.
“’Mamoleboheng and Jason did go against the law of Lesotho Marriage Act no.10 of 1974 (3) that says no person may be compelled to enter into a contract of marriage with any other person or to marry against his or her wish.”
The accused was granted bail deposit of M400 on condition she does not interfere with police investigations and crown witnesses. She must also attend remands and must stand her trial.
She will appear in court on March 18.
