The annual Alliance Insurance Challenge is poised to captivate football fans once again, with a substantial increase in sponsorship bringing the total to M400 000.
This boost ensures heightened excitement as four Premier League giants – Matlama FC, Lioli FC, Linare FC, and LCS FC prepare for the showdown on August 25.
In this revamped one-day event, Lioli and Linare will kick off the action in the first semi-final, followed by Matlama versus LCS. The climax of the tournament will see the final played later that afternoon.
The winners will walk away with M60 000, marking a M10,000 increase from last year’s prize. The runners-up will receive M20,000, while each of the remaining teams will take home M10,000.
Launched in 2015, the Alliance Winter Challenge has become a cornerstone in supporting football clubs under Alliance Insurance’s sponsorship.
Since its inception, the tournament has seen significant growth and engagement, culminating in a showcase of premier league talent and spirited competition.
Alliance Insurance, through its Public Relations and Corporate Communications Manager, Limakatso Mokobocho, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming tournament, emphasizing its commitment to supporting local football.
“The upcoming season will be no different; the championship will go to one of them. The prize money is our way of helping our teams and to ensure that have something before the season starts. We are really improving and every team will benefit t from this tournament,” she said.
“Gate-takings will be shared equally by the football clubs. This is to make sure that they have something in the pocket before hosting and collecting their own gate-takings in the premier league. The tournament is to build a bond with each other and boost one another,” Mokobocho said.
Mokobocho highlighted the importance of the tournament not only as a sporting event but also as a means to strengthen bonds between clubs and their communities. She urged fans to show their support in numbers, emphasizing the role of football in uniting people.
Speaking on behalf of the participating teams, Lioli’s president, Lebohang Thotanyana expressed gratitude for the support the clubs have been receiving from Alliance Insurance over the years.
He noted that Alliance Insurance–sponsored clubs won all the trophies on offer during the past 2023/24 Premier League season.
“Matlama won the People’s Cup tournament and Lioli won the league. The top four in the premier league from last season has three teams from Alliance Insurance and we are very grateful. Our football just needs investments from companies for it to grow, and I wish others could see the good work done by Alliance,” Thotanyana said.
