The Lesotho Corporate Champions League (CCL) is gearing up for an exciting start to the 2024/2025 season, scheduled to kick off on August 28.
Reigning champions Econet Telecom Lesotho are poised to defend their title amidst heightened anticipation among fans and participants alike.
The league will commence with several captivating matchups, including Econet Telecom Lesotho facing off against First National Bank (FNB) Lesotho, Sentebale Gap Funeral Services taking on Alliance Insurance Lesotho, and Kings meeting Camera Man Lesotho.
Established in 2022 with 10 teams, the CCL saw Vodacom Lesotho emerge as the inaugural champions. Over recent seasons, the league has expanded to accommodate 14 teams, with the current 2024 season featuring 16 teams.
The participating teams include Econet Telecom Lesotho, FNB Lesotho, Maluti Mountain Brewery, KFC, Alliance Insurance Lesotho, Lesotho Flour Mills, Sentebale Gap Funeral, Sotho Kids, Econo Foods, Team Friends, North Envy, FPL Superstars, Camera Man Lesotho, Mateneng Social Club, Kings, and Four in One Trading Company.
The stakes are high, with winners of the league receiving prestigious rewards such as gold medals, a trophy, team jerseys, and footballs. Runners-up are not left behind, securing footballs and silver medals, while the third-place team is awarded footballs and bronze medals. Additionally, the CCL hosts monthly awards recognizing outstanding individual and team performances, including Player of the Month, Team of the Month, and Coach of the Month accolades.
Mpho Pashe of the CCL emphasized the league’s annual duration, running throughout the year with matches hosted at both Moshoeshoe II Grounds and Air Wing Grounds every Sunday. Professional match officials from the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) are employed to officiate these matches.
“The Corporate Champions League is more than just a football competition; it serves as a platform to promote community spirit, support small businesses and corporations, and advocate for healthy living through sports,” Pashe stated.
“Our mission extends beyond the field, aiming to keep youth engaged and away from the risks of alcohol and substance abuse.”
Pashe further noted that participating corporates have chosen to compete for prizes other than monetary rewards, emphasizing the league’s commitment to fostering camaraderie and promoting a positive sporting environment.
