The Lesotho Football Association (LeFA) has moved to ease the financial burden facing Premier League clubs ahead of the 2026/27 season, acknowledging the growing costs associated with running top-flight football teams.

The intervention was tabled by LeFA President LijaneNthunya during a special meeting of the LeFA Executive Committee held last week.

According to LeFA, the initiative is aimed at assisting clubs facing mounting expenses related to travel, player welfare and day-to-day operations.

Nthunya told members that the association has allocated funds to support Premier League clubs during the upcoming season. However, the exact amounts to be disbursed to individual clubs, as well as the distribution model, are still being finalised.

The move comes as LeFA continues its engagement with FIFA in an effort to secure broader financial assistance that could benefit clubs across all divisions of Lesotho football.

“We are starting with the Premier League because the needs there are immediate,” Nthunya said.

“Once we receive feedback from FIFA, we will be in a position to assist more clubs across the football pyramid.”

LeFA Communications Manager Mikia Kalati confirmed the association’s position, saying the intervention forms part of efforts to support clubs and strengthen the sustainability of domestic football.

The financial challenges facing clubs have remained a major concern in Lesotho football, with teams required to meet substantial costs covering transportation, player-related expenses, technical staff and other operational needs throughout the season.

The latest intervention is therefore expected to provide some relief to Premier League teams as they prepare for the 2026/27 campaign.

LeFA said further details regarding the amounts and disbursement arrangements will be communicated to clubs and other stakeholders once final discussions have been concluded.
