Lesotho’s ladies Beach Volleyball team has qualified for the next round of the CAVB 2026 Beach Volleyball Continental Senior Championships after defeating Burundi 2-0 in a tough encounter on Thursday this week.
The team’s remarkable breakthrough came after two wins and a loss in the group stages of the competition currently ongoing in Egypt from 18–22 August 2026.
After initially suffering a 2-0 defeat against Morocco in their opening match, team Lesotho, comprising Neo Chapole and Moroesi Tolofi bounced back in impressive fashion by first defeating Benin 2–1, and then defeating Burundi 2-0.
Chapole and Tolofi showed renewed determination against both Benin and Burundi, battling to secure their first and second wins of the continental tournament.
The result is an important confidence boost for the Lesotho duo as they continue their campaign against some of Africa’s leading beach volleyball teams. With Olympic qualification at stake, every match represents an opportunity for the Basotho pair to strengthen their bid for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Lesotho’s participation in the championship is already a historic achievement, with the country making its first appearance at such a high level in Beach Volleyball.
The team earned its place in the Olympic qualifying competition after finishing second in qualifiers held in Mozambique in early July. Three qualification places were available, and Lesotho secured one of them.
The team is coached by Moholo Lekomola, while ‘Maleteketoa Sekhonyana serves as Team Manager.
The Lesotho Volleyball Association (LVA) has described the competition as a major milestone for the country, with Olympic qualification offering an opportunity to raise the profile of Basotho volleyball on the international stage.
The tournament, being held in Egypt from 18–22 August 2026, brings together leading beach volleyball teams from across the continent. For Lesotho, the mission is clear: compete strongly, build on the victory over Benin and remain in contention for a historic Olympic qualification.
Following their historic qualification to the next round, Chapole and Tolofi will now look to carry the momentum into their remaining matches as they continue their pursuit of continental success and a coveted ticket to LA2028.
