Lioli Football Club (FC) have honoured their championship-winning coach, Motheo Mohapi, for leading the club to a remarkable title victory.
Mohapi, along with the players and other club members, received performance awards and cash prizes at a recent gala dinner in Teyateyaneng, Berea district.
Addressing the gathering, Lioli president Lebohang Thotanyana expressed gratitude for the achievement of winning the league title under Mohapi’s guidance.
“We are here today because of your hard work and for that, we thank you. You have restored our dignity. We have a long way to go with you in this journey,” Thotanyana said, hinting at an extension of Mohapi’s contract, which expired at the conclusion of the 2023/24 Vodacom Premier League (VPL) season.
Motheo Mohapi, affectionately known as “Six to Six,” joined the Berea side at the beginning of the season, when they had finished eighth in the previous campaign. He quickly instilled discipline and a winning mentality within the club, leading them to the league title in his first season.
In the process, Mohapi restored the dignity of the club, which had been without silverware for seven years and had somewhat lost its way. During the glittering night, Mohapi received a presidential award and a M15,000 cash prize from the club president.
In the players’ awards, Jerry Kamela was named the Player of the Season and awarded a cash prize of M15,000. Tumelo Khutlang won the Golden Boot and also took home M15,000. Goalkeeper William Huni won the Golden Glove along with a M15,000 cash prize.
Tau Masiu was named the Player’s Player of the Season and received M8,000, while Mafa Moremoholo was selected as the Most Disciplined Player of the Season and awarded M8,000. The Outstanding Young Player of the Year award went to Mokoteli Mohapi, who also received an M8,000 cash prize. Sihle Maso was recognized as the Most Improved Player and received M8,000 in prize money.
