Qoaling residents intend to honour female football star, Boitumelo Rabale with a hero’s welcome upon her arrival in the country later this month.

The national team captain and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies striker is scheduled to touch down at the Moshoeshoe I International Airport on December 23.

Rabale’s homecoming rides on the back of a hugely successful year in which she won the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Champions League and the South African Hollywood Bets Women’s Super League with Sundowns Ladies.

On a personal level, Rabale was named player of the tournament at the African Women’s Champions League, and player of the season in the South Africa Hollywood Bets Women’s Super League.

Rabale is widely believed to be the first Mosotho to hold the CAF Champions League gold medal, with no male Mosotho player having achieved the same feat.

A statement from the homecoming event organisers, said the residents and the Qoaling community have paid for her plane ticket.

A motorcade from the airport will accompany Rabale to her home in Qoaling where the festivities and celebration will take place.

“Let us line the streets with flags, cheers, and chants to let her know how much we admire and respect her as a representative of our country. We urge all interested stakeholders to pledge as they can to make this celebration a success.

“Boitumelo’s achievement serves as an inspiration to all Basotho, especially our young athletes, showing that with determination and skill, anything is possible. Let’s give her the hero’s welcome she deserves and make this a day to remember for our nation,” the statement reads.
