As part of giving back to the community, the Kao Storm Mountain Diamonds (SMD) is set to handover 31 Rams and Infrastructure to the Motete Wool and Mohair Association on February 25, 2022.

According to a statement by the mine earlier this week, the initiative is aimed at improving the production of wool and mohair for the farmers in upgraded breeding through procurement of improved rams, improved nutrition through the restoration and rehabilitation of rangelands and improved infrastructure through maintenance of the current woolshed and construction of offices and accommodation rooms for the personnel working at the woolshed during the wool shearing season.

The effort to back the wool and mohair farmers from the Motete Wool and Mohair Association come through the SMD’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) program.

“To date, the mine has successfully procured 31 rams for the farmers and constructed offices and accommodation rooms for the personnel working at the woolshed and wishes to handover the rams and infrastructure to the farmers on the 25 February 2022 at a ceremony that will be held in Kao Mpa Tšehla at the Motete Wool and Mohair Association wool shed,” the statement said in part.

Kao Storm Mountain Diamonds (Pty) Ltd (“SMD”) operates a diamond mine in the Kao area of the Butha-Buthe District. SMD is jointly owned by Namakwa Diamonds and the Government of Lesotho. The Mine has an active CSR program aimed at improving the livelihoods of the communities surrounding our operations.
