The head coach of Matlama Football Club (FC), Halemakale Mahlaha, has praised his players for their exceptional dedication and commitment, leading to their back-to-back wins of the recent Alliance Challenge tournament.
Mahlaha highlighted that the players’ hard work and perseverance reflect their determination to succeed.
“The club’s impressive performance has not only boosted morale within the squad but also reignited the passion of our supporters,” Mahlaha said.
“The consistent and excellent display on the field is encouraging fans to come out in large numbers and cheer for the team at the playgrounds. Our success is creating a positive atmosphere both on and off the pitch, strengthening the bond between the players and their loyal supporters.”
Speaking on behalf of the players, Matlama’s captain, Jane Thabantšo, reflected on the club’s remarkable achievement of reaching two finals in a short period. He noted that this accomplishment is a significant milestone for any football club.
“Competing in two consecutive finals not only highlights the club’s consistency and high level of performance but also proves that we are one of the dominant forces in football. This success is a source of immense pride for everyone involved, from the players to the coaching staff and the loyal supporters.
“Achieving this feat requires relentless determination, sacrifice, and teamwork. It’s about more than just winning titles; it’s about upholding the club’s legacy and setting an example for future generations of players.”
Matlama recently defeated their opponents in a one-day tournament, the Alliance Challenge 2024, walking away with the top prize of M60 000. The victory underscored Matlama’s continued dominance on the field and served as a testament to their financial success. They won their final match against Linare FC after a thrilling penalty shootout that ended 6-5 at Bambatha Tšita Sports Arena Stadium.
The ninth edition of the Alliance Challenge featured Matlama FC, LCS FC, Linare FC, and Lioli FC. Matlama FC were crowned champions, winning the ultimate prize of M60 000. Linare FC came in as runners-up, taking home M20 000, while Lioli FC and LCS FC each received M10 000.
The tournament not only demonstrated the football clubs’ competency but also strengthened community engagement and support for local football. It highlighted the ongoing commitment of sponsors like Alliance to promoting the sport and nurturing talent in Lesotho.
Alliance Group’s Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, ‘Makeabetsoe Mabaleha, remarked that the tournament is designed to benefit the four Alliance Insurance-sponsored football clubs. She explained that the goal is to help these clubs boost their financial resources before the sports season begins, allowing them to manage expenses such as player salaries and other critical needs.
