The Lesotho-China Fellowship Collegiate recently marked a watershed moment in its history, hosting its fifth Annual Awards Giving Ceremony at its Sehlabeng Sa Thuathe premises.
The event was not just a prize-giving, but a celebration of an institution that is rapidly redefining educational excellence in Lesotho.
The ceremony honoured 47 top achievers who propelled the school to its most impressive academic performance to date. The atmosphere was electric, blending rigorous academic recognition with a rich cultural showcase featuring traditional dancers, renowned singers, and inspiring poetry.
The highlight of the festivities was the announcement of the school’s record-breaking results. The institution achieved a 78.8% A-Level pass rate, the highest in its history, while AS-Level students secured a perfect 100% pass rate.
These figures underscore the school’s progressive evolution towards a world-class center for Basotho learners. The school’s principal ‘Manthatisi Tikoane expressed profound pride in this new benchmark.
“This milestone represents not only the dedication of our students but also the unwavering commitment of our teaching staff and the supportive environment fostered by our entire school community,” she stated.
The 47 honorees, consisting of 20 A-Level and 27 AS-Level students, received medals, certificates, and gifts. Special recognition was given to those who earned ‘A’ symbols in specific subjects, highlighting a mastery of complex disciplines.
The Collegiate has built a formidable reputation for producing graduates who thrive on the international stage. Many alumni are currently pursuing high-level careers and degrees across the globe, proving that the education provided at Sehlabeng Sa Thuathe is a passport to the world. To inspire the current cohort, Alumnus Bokang Majoro shared his journey of resilience.
“Every challenge you face is an opportunity to grow stronger. I stand here today because I refused to give up, and I believe each and every one of you has the same potential to achieve greatness. Never let anyone tell you that you cannot succeed. The path may be difficult, but the destination is worth every struggle,” Majoro told the students.
The school’s progress is mirrored by the growing support of the Basotho business community. A significant highlight was a M50,000 sponsorship presented by Bothata Mahlala of the Bothata Mahlala Development Foundation, for the top-performing student.
“This investment in our students is an investment in Lesotho’s future. When we support education, we are building a stronger nation. I am proud to be associated with an institution that produces such exceptional young people, and I encourage other members of our community to follow suit,” Mahlala noted.
Beyond the spreadsheets and percentages, the ceremony highlighted the school’s commitment to “the whole child.” By integrating arts and culture into the celebration, the Collegiate demonstrated that education is about nurturing creative minds as much as academic ones.
As the institution looks toward the future, Principal Tikoane remains focused on the long-term impact.
“This is a moment of great pride for our entire school community. Our students have proven that with dedication, hard work, and the right support system, anything is possible. We are committed to continuing this legacy of excellence and nurturing future leaders who will make significant contributions to Lesotho and the world,” she added.
