Vodacom Premier League (VPL) log-leaders Matlama continued on their winning streak thus cementing their hold onto the title following the weekend’s 4-0 walloping of bottom-of-the-table Sefotha-fotha at Ratjomose Ground on Saturday.

A brace from Makume Theletsane followed by a goal by a goal a-piece by captain Phafa Tšosane and Jane Thabantšo ensured Matlama extended their unbeaten run to 14 games in the league.

“Tse Putsoa” now lead the VPL table with 53 points having from 21 games. They have secured 17 wins, two draws and have lost two games. They are now 11 points clear of second placed Bantu at 42 points.

The loss left Sefotha-fotha anchoring the log after registering their 14th loss of the season.

Matlama head coach Molebatsi Mothobi said he was happy with the results adding that despite being log-leaders they are taking every game seriously.

“Before this game I was having sleepless nights because I knew that only a win would be good enough.

“Sefotha-fotha are at the bottom of the log and a team in that position can be very dangerous, however, I am happy with my players’ performance. We are making sure that we win all our remaining games,” Mothobi said.

For his part, Sefotha-fotha coach, Lerato Mokheba, said she was worried that they lost with a huge margin.

“Losing by this huge margin is worrying especially for a team that is already rock bottom of the log. We knew Matlama were not going to be an easy team but losing by this margin says we are not doing something right,” Mokheba said.

Meanwhile, earlier on the same venue LMPS thumped Lifofane 4-0 courtesy of Raboama Koloti, Bokang Mothoana and a brace by Monyatheli Ntobo.

Swallows lost their ninth league match since June 2021 when they met LCS in Nyakoso, the match ended 0-2 in favor of LSC.

Lioli got their revenge on Kick4Life with a 1-0 victory on Saturday at LCS ground after a first round loss to the hosts in June last year. However, they remain fourth on the log with 37 points after 21 games.

Sunday results saw title third-placed LDF losing their first match in 2022 with a 1-2 loss to 12th places CCX at Ratjomose Ground while defending Champions Bantu dropped points with a draw against FC Likhopo.

Linare were left with an upset after a 0-1 home defeat to Lijabatho at Maputsoe DiFA ground.
