Woman trades another for M50.00

A 22-year-old woman who resides in Ha-Tsolo in Maseru is in police custody after trading in another 26-year-old woman to a man for M50.00.

According to the police reports by Police Deputy Spokesperson, Inspector ‘Mareabetsoe Mofoka, on March 31 2022, the suspect told the victim who was job-hunting to go to a local shop where upon her arrival, the victim met a man who sexually assaulted her and gave her M50.00 as ‘payment’.

 Ha-Tsolo community policing members arrested the suspect and handed her over to the Thetsane Police Station on April 2, 2022.

Inspector Mofoka said the police are still on the hunt for the man who will be charged alongside the suspect after it emerged that he has since fled.

Investigations are still underway.

In other news, a 29-year-old a Mafeteng man will make his second appearance before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court on April 21, 2022 on charges of carjacking

Tsunyane Kupuke, made his first appearance before the same court on April 7, 2022 where he was granted free bail.

Inspector Mofoka noted that, on March 13, 2022, a VW Polo 4 vehicle belonging to another 29-year-old man from Ha-‘Masana, Maseru was hijacked from a parking lot of one of the night clubs in town and investigations by the police led to the suspect.

She further indicated that, the police found the suspect with the aforementioned vehicle without its documentations and the suspect failed to tell who the car belonged to. The police arrested him.

Meanwhile, one of the five suspects who were charged with stock theft of four cows which were stolen at a farm in South Africa on November 6, 2021, will make his second appearance before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court

52-year-old Thabang Mafojane, resident of Ha-Ts’osane, Maseru who is Member of Parliament for the Motimposo #30 constituency, made his first appearance before the magistrate’s court on April 12, 2022 on charges of controverting section 63 (i), (ii) and (iii) along with section 109 Act of Penal Code of 2010.

Inspector Mofoka said the suspect was granted a M2 500.00 bail and with a M10 000.00 surety which he paid.

It was noted that Mafojane is one of the five suspects who appeared before the magistrate on March 1, 2022 who were charged with stock theft of four cows stolen from a farm in South Africa two of which were found slaughtered at Sky Butchery in Teyateyaneng, Berea while the other two were found at Mafojane’s residential home.

Inspector Mofoka said on November 6, 2021 at around 2100hours two armed men invaded a home of a South African businessman aged 45 years.

She said these men stole money and shot the businessman who died instantly then fled the scene. 

Inspector Mofoka said, on April 10, 2022 the police arrested three men who are prime suspects and also recovered a laptop along with a phone which are said to belong to the deceased businessman. Furthermore, the police also found a 9 millimeter firearm with erased serial number and five bullets.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Lebohang Tsie from Mants’onyane, Thaba-Tseka was sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the Thaba-tseka Magistrates court on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm with seven bullets

Tsie appeared before court on April 6, 2022 where he was sentenced to a one-year imprisonment or pay a M5 000.00 fine which he failed to pay

Still in Thaba-Tseka, Inspector Mofoka mentioned that from December 2021 to date, the police have recovered 20 unlicensed firearms from people in Thaba-Tseka as she expressed the police indebtedness to the public who helped with information which led to the recovery of those illegal firearms.

In stock theft, Inspector Mofoka said the police have received 39 reports of stock theft cases and six suspects have been arrested. Among the reported cases, 48 cows, four horses, five donkeys, 158 sheep and 21 goats were stolen and the police found 92 cows, two horses, seven donkeys, three sheep and three goats.
