Letšeng Diamonds, renowned for operating the world’s highest dollar value per carat kimberlite mine, has recently announced the appointment of Motooane Thinyane as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Thinyane, who previously served as the Head of Operations, steps into the role, succeeding Kelebone Leisanyane, who had been at the helm since 2018.
Thinyane’s tenure officially began on July 1, 2023, as confirmed by the company’s official website.
Letšeng Diamonds, a majority-owned subsidiary of the London Stock Exchange-listed Gem Diamonds Limited, with the government of Lesotho holding a 30 percent stake.
A mechanical engineer by profession, Thinyane’s professional journey spans over three decades, primarily focused on the operation, maintenance, and management of engineering facilities.
Prior to his role at Letšeng Diamonds, Thinyane held key positions at various esteemed organisations, including the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASCO), Lesotho Highlands Development Authority (LHDA), and Maluti Mountain Brewery (MMB).
Throughout his time at Letšeng Diamonds, Thinyane has exhibited commendable leadership, heading the Engineering department as Engineering Manager and making significant contributions to the Business Transformation initiative, according to information posted on the company’s website.
His recent role as Head of Operations saw him steer the company through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
