The Revenue Service Lesotho (RSL) has officially rolled out its e-Taxation system, marking a significant milestone in digitising tax-related processes and aligning with international standards.
This announcement was made during the tax clinical campaign hosted by RSL in collaboration with the Lesotho Institute of Accountants (LIA) at Lancers’ Inn in Maseru on April 30.
Having piloted the e-Taxation and other digital platforms during the previous filling season, RSL has fully implemented aiming to streamline tax filing, payments, and revenue-related activities for all registered clients on a unified platform.
Relebohile ‘Molaoa, an RSL Educator, highlighted the organisation’s commitment to digitalisation, emphasising the convenience and accessibility offered by the e-Taxation platform.
“As the world evolves into digitalisation, we are committed to also go digital so this is our progress towards that mandate so that every client can register online, file online, and complete all these at their convenience wherever they are,” ‘Molaoa stated.
Despite encountering challenges with client reception and platform usage, RSL remains optimistic about the initiative’s success.
‘Molaoa stressed the importance of educating and assisting clients throughout the filling season to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.
The tax clinics conducted by RSL aim to educate clients on e-filing and e-payment platforms, correct financial statement preparation, and accessing RSL’s online services. ‘Molaoa reiterated RSL’s commitment to guiding clients and facilitating accurate tax filing throughout the filling season.
Furthermore, RSL expects reports for the 2023/2024 filling season from all individuals and businesses generating revenue, emphasising clients’ obligation to fulfill their tax responsibilities. Collaboration with the Lesotho Institute of Accountants in tax clinics aims to educate clients on proper bookkeeping practices to facilitate accurate tax filing.
Local media houses were also engaged to raise awareness about the 2023/2024 filling season, running from April 1 to June 30, 2024. This initiative seeks to encourage all Mosotho individuals and businesses to participate in tax filing and fulfil their civic duties.
