Botho University officially opened its highly anticipated campus at Ha Pena Pena in Maseru last Friday, a landmark investment of M80 million that underscores the institution’s commitment to providing world-class education in Lesotho.
The grand inauguration ceremony, held amid an atmosphere of celebration and optimism, brought together esteemed dignitaries, education stakeholders, and members of the community.

Delivering the keynote address, Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso lauded Botho University’s dedication to empowering Lesotho’s youth through quality higher education.
She emphasised the crucial role that institutions like Botho University play in equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive global economy.
The Queen further urged both students and the broader community to take ownership of educational institutions, recognising them as a legacy for future generations.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sheela Raja Ram expressed profound gratitude to all those who contributed to making the project a reality.
In a moving moment, she recited a bilingual poem in Sesotho and English, symbolising the deep and lasting impact the university aims to have on its students’ futures.
She reiterated that the new campus is not just a physical expansion but a step toward revolutionising education in Lesotho, aligning academic programs with the evolving demands of industries.
The newly launched campus, which took 18 months to complete, is designed to focus on technical and job-oriented training, ensuring that graduates enter the workforce with practical and in-demand skills.
With existing campuses in Namibia, Eswatini, and Botswana, Botho University continues to establish itself as a leader in higher education across Southern Africa.
Minister of Education, Professor Ntoi Rapapa, echoed these sentiments, emphasising that the inauguration of the new campus represented far more than just the unveiling of another higher learning institution.
Rapapa said the inauguration stood as a powerful testament to perseverance, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to academic excellence in Lesotho.
“This milestone symbolises the strength of our collective efforts,” he remarked, urging other institutions to draw inspiration from Botho University’s bold example and follow in its footsteps.
The ceremony was punctuated by a series of memorable moments, beginning with Botho University presenting a thoughtful gift to the Queen. This was followed by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, with Her Majesty herself officiating the honours.
The atmosphere was further enriched by vibrant performances, including a heartfelt poem recitation and an energetic showcase of Litolobonya by students.
