FNB Lesotho has strengthened its support for grassroots football by donating soccer balls to football academies across the country as it concluded its “Swipe, Tap and Win” customer rewards campaign.
The initiative, run in partnership with Visa, was linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup held in the United States, Mexico and Canada from June 11 to July 19. Besides rewarding customers, the campaign also sought to leave a lasting impact by supporting the development of young footballers.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, FNB Marketing Manager Lerato Mohale said the campaign produced 42 winners through weekly and monthly prize draws.
He said some winners received the equivalent of three months’ salary, covering the period from July to September, while others walked away with grocery vouchers and paraffin. The winners included both private banking and business banking clients.
FNB Chief Marketing Officer Seema Tšotetsi said the bank wanted the campaign to leave behind tangible benefits beyond customer rewards.
He said the bank’s intention is to contribute towards a better future for the country and its citizens. She added that investing in football academies will help build their future.
Strategic Business Development Manager Pontšo Khalane said the campaign was also designed to encourage customers to make greater use of their bank cards.
She said card payments are simple, convenient and can be used even when customers are travelling outside the country.
She said, “Our core purpose is to unleash talents and we help Lesotho create a core purpose.”
Khalane said although the campaign has ended, customers will continue to enjoy the benefits associated with using their bank cards. As part of the campaign’s legacy, the bank donated soccer balls to football academies to support youth development.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA), Secretary-General Mokhosi Mohapi welcomed the initiative, saying investing in football academies would produce long-term results.
Mohapi challenged FNB to develop a five-year partnership plan that would allow progress to be measured over time.
“It is not for optics or newspaper pages, but we need to grow football,” he said.
He also congratulated the beneficiary academies, saying the donated balls should be put to good use in developing future football talent.
The beneficiary academies were Santos FC, Emmanuel Youth Development Academy, FC Stoko Academy, Mabuthile Young Stars FC, FC The Boys Academy, PK Stars Ladies FC, Mabote Classic, Millennium Park Soccer Academy (MPSA) and Malimo FC Soccer Academy. Each academy received 15 soccer balls.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Bofihla ‘Neko thanked FNB for investing in grassroots football.
“Let us accept these gifts with open hearts so that they bring change in our communities, so that we have a brighter future for Likuena,” he said.
