The Vodacom Premier League (VPL) champions, Matlama left winger, Mohau Rammoneng is in a tussle with the club over a move to terminate his contract.
The team is said to have told him that the management of the club is desirous of terminating his contract which still has at least one year remaining, but the player said he told the club management to go ahead as long as they pay him all what is due to him.
“The management wants to terminate my contract but I told them I do not have a problem with the termination only if they follow the rules of termination,†Rammoneng told Newsday Sport in an exclusive interview.
The player who joined Matlama at the beginning of the 2020/21 season told this publication that he does not understand the reasons for the said termination.
Matlama won their 11th premier league title in the recently completed 2020/21 season to add to their already greatly-decorated trophy cabinet and will be expected to represent Lesotho in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions league.
Speaking on behalf of the management, Matlama General Manager, Lebenya Makakole, confirmed that the club is currently in talks with the player and would not be revealing much on the situation.
However, he mentioned that the player was made aware of the decision to offload him as it was a recommendation made by the technical team to the management of the club.
“I am confident that when the player was told about the decision to terminate his contract, he was told of the reasons behind it so he knows the reasons fully but I cannot go into much detail because that matter is ongoing.
“Another important thing to note is that as management we are not the ones who decide on which players to let go and which ones to bring in but it is the decision of the coaches who then make a recommendation to us. Because the player still had a year left on his contract, we are going to do right by him but for now I cannot say much,†Makakole said.
He said ‘Mido’ as Rammoneng is affectionately known, will not be the only one leaving the club per recommendation of the coaching stuff which is looking to strengthen the squad going into the new season to defend their title and compete in other competitions.
