The national football team, Likuena, is gearing up for the bicentenary celebrations in style, thanks to the generous sponsorship from Maluti Mountain Brewery and Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation (LTDC).

The players received branded t-shirts and sweaters, symbolising the beginning of what could be a fruitful partnership between sports and corporate Lesotho.

During the handover event, Minister of Sports, Motlatsi Maqelepo, expressed his gratitude to the sponsors for answering his call for corporate support of the national team.

“I am certain that if we take this route, there is a possibility of a brighter future ahead for sports in Lesotho. It is up to us to create value in our different sporting codes so that these companies can do more,” Maqelepo said.

“These companies need us as much as we need them. It is only through sports that the national flag can be raised more often on the international scene,” Maqelepo added, highlighting the unifying power of sports in bringing Basotho together across religious and tribal backgrounds.

Tebello Thoola, the Head of Strategic Marketing at LTDC, emphasised the synergy between LTDC, MMB, and Likuena, describing them as some of Lesotho’s best brands.

“We have started this partnership with the hope of improving and growing together,” Thoola stated.

The handover ceremony was attended by officials from the Ministry of Sports, the Lesotho Football Association (LeFA), the Lesotho Sports and Recreation Commission (LSRC), and the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC), among others.
