Matšoloane Qhomane, a textile worker, became the proud owner of a brand-new Nissan NP200 bakkie this week after winning a major prize in a mobile money competition run by Econet Telecom Lesotho (ETL) subsidiary, SasaiEconet Financial Services (SEFS).

The EcoCash campaign, dubbed ‘Tobetsa,’ has been running for the past three months, during which a total of three vehicles were given away as grand prizes to subscribers among other lucrative prizes.

The campaign aimed to celebrate and promote the use of EcoCash as a viable mobile money solution.

In her acceptance speech, Qhomane, who resides in Thaba Bosiu, Maseru, expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the competition. Qhomane shared how she works in the textile industry and decided to try her luck, never expecting that her participation would result in such a life-changing win.

“I am truly humbled to drive away with a prize of this magnitude that will certainly change my life for the better. No one would have thought that by simply collecting EcoCash Tobetsa points through transacting with EcoCash, paying my bills, sending money, and buying Tobetsa entry points, I would bring so much joy to my family,” Qhomane said.

At the handover ceremony, the Acting General Manager of SEFS, Lehlohonolo Matee, expressed excitement about ending the campaign with a winner from a place of deep cultural significance, especially as the nation celebrates its 200th bicentennial year.

“This innovative campaign, branded EcoCash Tobetsa, not only seeks to celebrate each customer’s loyalty but also underscores our commitment to convenience. It aims to positively transform the livelihoods of our valued customers across Lesotho,” Matee stated.

He also highlighted how EcoCash, with its wide reach through ETL, continues to revolutionise financial management, making transactions easier, faster, and more secure for customers.

Previous winners of the Tobetsa campaign’s grand prize include Tšoanelo Mongali from Qacha’s Nek district and ‘Malineo Motšephe from Morija, Maseru.
