Mokhotlong district-based Mzamane FC is three points away from sealing a sensational promotion to the Vodacom Premier League (VPL) with two games to go.

The club currently tops the A-Division League northern stream with 36 points, and has opened a five-point gap ahead of second-placed Kick4Life Juventude with 31 points.

This means three more points will earn Mzamane an automatic promotion to the VPL, and a chance to fight for the A-Division League overall honours against the winners of the southern stream.

If they seal the promotion, Mzamane will be the first Mokhotlong club to advance to the premier league in recent years, after Balefe FC came close many years ago.

Last weekend Mzamane secured a massive 2-1 victory against title hopefuls Maroala FC, which was leapfrogged by Kick4Life into the second spot.

In an exclusive interview with Newsday Sports, Mzamane head coach, Liteboho Ramantsoe said their goal was to be among the top four at the beginning of the season, but now they are looking to finish off the excellent season at the same pace they have been going.

“I am grateful for my players having made it this far in their tough journey. The players understood what we wanted them to do and they listened to everything we told them. However, our good performance has come at a price, as we have now became an enemy to other clubs,” Ramantsoe explained.

Mzamane will host relegation-threatened Galaxy FC in a tricky tie in Mokhotlong on March 24, before facing Kick4Life in their final match in Maseru.

“If we beat Galaxy I will gladly say we have made it. The last two matches will be a test which we will need to concentrate all our final efforts on,” added the former LCS FC and LMPS FC player.

Meanwhile, the South Stream log is currently led by Majantja FC with 38 points, followed by Qoaling Highlanders FC with 30 points. Members FC comes in third with 28 points after 16 rounds of matches.

This weekend’s fixture has pitted Galaxy against Rovers FC at CCX Ground in Hlotse, Leribe, in the Northern stream.
