Mini-grids Developers & Financiers Market Sounding Workshop
The Government of Lesotho (GoL), under the auspices of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), is pleased to announce an exceptional opportunity for private sector engagement in the electrification of Lesotho’s households through mini-grids. This groundbreaking initiative is an integral component of the Lesotho Renewable Energy and Energy Access Project (LREEAP), supported by funding from the World Bank. The primary objective of this project is to enhance electricity access in rural and peri-urban areas of Lesotho in alignment with the Lesotho Energy Policy 2015- 2025, emphasizing affordable, sustainable energy with minimal environmental impact.
Project Overview:
Under Component 2: Rural Electrification by Mini-grids, which boasts a substantial funding allocation including IDA US$10 million equivalent, SREP Loan US$8 million, and SREP Grant US$2 million, the Government of Lesotho, through LREEAP, is dedicated to supporting the electrification of regions where mini-grids offer the most economically efficient solution, as substantiated by the Electrification Master Plan (EMP) and rigorous geo-spatial analysis.
