…As DJ Thizozo brings Lloyiso for ‘Soul Meets Gospel’ experience
Get ready to dress in white with a touch of gold as Maseru prepares for an unforgettable night of music and soul.
Renowned local promoter and DJ, Thabo Tau, popularly known as DJ Thizozo, is counting down the days to the next installment of his signature event series, this time under the theme: “Let’s Touch Your Soul: Soul Meets Gospel.”
The highly anticipated affair is set for Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Maseru Club.
Headlining the night is none other than dynamic South African singer, songwriter, and producer, Lloyiso. Known for his powerful vocals, emotive lyrics, and a seamless blend of R&B and Soul, Lloyiso is expected to deliver a performance that will leave a lasting impression on the Maseru crowd.
Speaking whith Newsday Media this past Wednesday, DJ Thizozo shared the vision behind the event series. Inspired by popular concepts in South Africa, he aims to create an atmosphere where “the smoothest melodies and heart stirring rhythms come together to create a vibe like no other” right here in Lesotho.
Thizozo highlighted a specific need he seeks to address. Providing a dedicated entertainment space for the middle aged and mature demographic.
“It seems like there is a gap in the entertainment industry between middle age and mature whereby new music is not their vibe,” he stated. “Mature people need to relax since they seem to be busy people with their commitments and their families.
So this concept will make them relax and chill while their soul is touched with good soulful music.”
This episode’s “Soul meets Gospel” theme is a deliberate choice to keep the event series fresh and distinct. “Anything soulful,” Thizozo explained, is the guiding principle, allowing exploration across R&B, Jazz, Soul, and Gospel.
“As to make this show different, is to add gospel in it,” he noted, while confirming that Soul and R&B will remain dominant genres. The theme extends to the dress code “White with a touch of Gold” adding an element of fashion.
Thizozo believes resonates particularly well with his target audience, which includes many women. The dress code theme also changes for different episodes.
Beyond just a night out, the event carries a deeper purpose. It aims to provide an escape, bring positivity, and offer a space to celebrate life, especially for those navigating the stresses of work, marriage, and daily commitments.
The event also serves as a crucial platform for local talent. Attendees can look forward to performances from Lesotho’s own Minister Spokes, known for his gospel vocals, the talented Mookho, and other local artists.
DJ Thizozo sees this as vital, commenting on the growth of Lesotho’s music industry while pointing out specific challenges. “We still have challenges especially on soul and RnB music production,” he observed, noting a scarcity of artists in these genres.
He hopes events like “Let’s touch your soul” will encourage young local artists to explore Soul and R&B and provide exposure for their music.
Organising such an event is not without hurdles. DJ Thizozo candidly mentioned the financial challenges involved in large scale productions and the perennial issue of finding suitable venues in Maseru capable of accommodating such events, particularly considering unpredictable weather.
Despite the challenges, anticipation is high. Maseru residents are encouraged to mark their calendars and prepare their white and gold attire for an evening dedicated to soulful music, relaxation, and the celebration of life at the Maseru Club on April 20.
The countdown to this soulful episode has officially begun.
