Of childish, disloyal and dishonest MPs

Business

As the road towards the 2022 General Elections becomes a reality more than just the theory it appeared to have been before, it is clearer than before the ilk of folk entrusted with emancipating a nation from the clutches of all the social ills bedevilling it.

Upon realising the reality of the status quo, it becomes not only irking but distasteful to behold the grey-haired folks in Parliament who have resorted to behaving like their mostly grand and great grand-children playing hide-and-seek at the public’s expense. Most of the deadwood will actually be looking for re-election.

Even the youthful of the rank and file are brain-washed, good-for-nothing wet-behind-the-ears excuses who should never have been entrusted with such sacrosanct a mandate.

Tiffs and neck-biting melees in parliament are order of the day while thousands upon thousands of citizens who have truly pinned their hopes on the delinquents go hungry and continue to live from hand-to-mouth. Even a handful that try their utmost to eke out a living either working or trying a hand in entrepreneurship constantly have to live with egg in the face as their playing field is unable to be levelled.

This happens as the honourable persons who as a matter of fact deserve the title of dishonourable continue to overlook them and focus instead on their own personal aggrandizement. Evidence to this is plethora of strikes by the various sectors of society who decry service delivery while the persons who are supposed to be looking out for their needs play all day and yet stuff their bellies by helping themselves to even the last public penny. Big paycheques, movie-style benefits and allowance which keep being heaped for them are all they think. Remember the recent superfluous so-called M5000 fuel allowances?

Someone learned that the comrades in parley are on a power-struggle fight where some are gunning for the Premiership and not thinking about the voting masses even as elections draw near.

ABC withdrew from the government after tendering letter of withdrawal to parliament a fortnight ago. Now the impatient newly elected party leader Nkaku Kabi toils day and night to see him thrown out of State House along with his wife regardless of the remaining six months to head for the general elections.

As more plots are initiated, the current Premier and Thetsane Member of Parliament, Dr. Moeketsi Majoro showed face at the new State House along with fellow coalition partner Democratic Congress (DC) leader Mathibeli Mokhothu, leader of Movement for Economic Change (MEC), Basotho National Party (BNP) of Machesetsa Mofomobe et al, where he was counting the heads of those backing him lest the opposition overthrows him.

He vowed that they have enough numbers of seats in parliament to sustain him to the next elections, revealing a number of 21 ABC members rallying behind him added with DC’s 29 seats while MEC came to the party with five seats, Popular Front for Democracy (PFD) with three seats, BNP counting four and Basotho Congress Party (BCP), National Independent Party (NIP), Reformed Congress Lesotho (RCL) and Marematlou Freedom Party (MFP) all recorded 1 seat each respectively, totaling to 66 seats.

It was yesterday when once again the parliament was seized with drama where the founder of ABC Motsoahae Thomas Thabane led the pack to the crossbench. Leading to more fracases as the opposition stated that Majoro is leading a minority government, thus a need to consider their motion of no confidence.

All these happen while the nation is going through the worst poverty and flooding rains destroying infrastructures and nothing done to revamp either of the worst affected departments in country.

The spats are triggered by the fact that all wants to dig their hands into the public coffers and build their own resources to mobilise their campaigning for the next elections. How untenable.

This is a clear picture of the leadership Lesotho has, who are greedy and would stop at nothing other than to meet their own self-serving ends.
