Job Title: Tuberculosis Program Assistant
Duty Station: Tlhanyaku Health Centre, Mokhotlong
Reports to: Nurse In Charge

Job Profile
Effective tuberculosis screening is a key step in case identification and putting patients on effective tuberculosis medication. Early identification and timely TB case notification can be ensured through effective TB screening at all entry points at health facilities and community levels. The TB Program assistant will work in improving tuberculosis screening, diagnosis, and treatment outcomes. The tuberculosis assistant is expected to work on a daily basis to improve the TB program with the following team members, TB screener, Laboratory personnel, Radiographer and X-ray Assistant, TB focal person at the site and the Nurse in charge.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Make sure that all suspected TB patients get a timely diagnosis and treatment decisions
  • Work to improve TB detection with all key staff at the health facility
  • Make sure that all the presumptive CAD TB cases are appropriately managed before the patients left the health facility
  • Work with the TB screeners to identify and screen all patients
  • Communicate on daily bases on the follow-up of the presumptive cases management with a nurse in
    charge, TB screener, laboratory personnel, TB focal person, and radiographer to ensure that all TB-diagnosed patients are initiated and the TB presumptive cases are tested and managed appropriately before they left the health facilities.
  • Work with the TB screener to provide a clear and understandable message to all clients during the screening
  • Ensure the availability of the TB screening register, TB suspect register, and TB treatment register.
  • Ensure a proper follow-up of the presumptive TB patients who were initiated on antibiotics after they
    completed their treatment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the nurse in charge

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualified Nursing Assistant
  • Willingness to work in remote and hard to reach areas
  • Good Interpersonal and Communication skills
  • Good command of Microsoft office
